David Webb Carved Lapis and Coral 18 Karat Gold Necklace
This amazing and unique David Webb necklace from ca. 1965 has 8 pieces of royal blue lapis lazuli which have been meticulously carved into shapes of scarabs, graduating in size. Each scarab is set into a bezel of 18 karat yellow gold and held by four extended prongs and each bezel has a framed beautifully handcrafted out of hammered gold and embellished with 3 bars of hammered gold on either side. Alternating with the lapis elements in this necklace are 10 pieces of oval carved bright pink coral which are set in handcrafted bezels of polished 18 karat gold. The necklace is crowned by a wonderful piece of square cut and carved lapis lazuli in a floral design and also set in a large frame of hammered gold. All elements are flexibly connected and present an astonishing look on the neck. The large end-piece of lapis and the larger carved coral above are detachable from the necklace so it can be worn as a chain necklace on its own. The necklace has a length of 24 inches and extends another 3 inches including the bottom pendant elements.
